Laura Ingraham postulating that Barack Obama isn’t “black enough” to be the first black president. She definitely realized how awful that statement is, if you listen to it you can hear the “Holy shit that’s racist” in her voice. -Joe |

Steve Benen, Washington Monthly A wave of new Republican-driven election laws will make it harder for millions of eligible voters to cast ballots in 2012. The most significant restriction requires Americans in several states to present state-issued photo IDs when they vote. It is estimated that 3.3 million eligible voters in the affected states — Kansas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin — don’t have such IDs now. The GOP insists the new rules were needed to stamp out voter fraud. The Left maintains these laws add up to a coordinated effort to suppress the Democratic vote. (via theweekmagazine) ID laws of any kind are voter suppression plain and simple, they limit the democratic rights of the poor and homeless. Since the poor and homeless overwhelmingly vote Democrat (shocking, I know) it’s in the GOP’s best interest to keep them out of the ballot box. -Joe |

Mitt Romney in defense of his flip-flopping. I get what he’s saying, although the things he’s changed his views about are pretty striking and not really the same sort of thing you would change your mind about in the private sector. It’s one thing to change your marketing strategy, it’s another to be for abortion when it’s in your best political interest and then against it for the same reason. Also I don’t think there’s a way to defend yourself out of an accusation of flip-flopping. That hyphenated word pretty much single handedly took down the John Kerry campaign. -Joe |
VoldemortRick Scott Predicts Winner of Florida Straw Poll Will Be PresidentFlorida Gov. Rick Scott (R) — like any decent governor — holds his state in high regard. So high, in fact, that he says the winner of Florida’s straw poll this week will be the next president.
But a number of Republican presidential hopefuls aren’t even participating. That doesn’t matter, Scott says, because even if you’re not participating … you’re participating.
“Even if you say you’re not participating, basically everyone knows your positions, they’re watching the debates,” he said on Fox News on Saturday. “… What’s the difference?”
He also “predicted” that those people signing up for Welfare wouldn’t get benefits because they were mostly “drug users.” The Amazing Kreskin, he ain’t.
His state has already proved that last part wrong. Of all the people who’ve taken the mandatory drug test for welfare, TWO have tested positive. And one person is contesting the results in court.

Ron Paul, commenting on his promise to ban all federal funding of Planned Parenthood if he is elected President. What Paul failed to mention is that Congress already prohibits Planned Parenthood from using federal funding to provide abortions, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Rep. Paul’s bill would strip Planned Parenthood of all federal funding in an effort to prevent taxpayers from paying for a service which they already don’t pay for. (via manicchill) Cool! I would like to invoke the Taxpayers’ Freedom of Conscience Act to cut off all taxpayer funding of killing brown people for oil. And ignorance-only education. And Mike Pence’s salary. kthx (via tehsunshine) Reblogging for the next time some libertarian doofus asks me why I don’t like Ron Paul. (Source: manicchill) |
… let me present polling of Obama vs. named Republican candidates.. The election is a long way off. But … so far, things look good. We’re in the time when the Republicans are supposed to look shiny and new. The field of candidates is a field of weeds.
Rasmussen has “Generic Republican” beating Obama by 6 points, but amongst candidates, the only one within real shouting distance is Romney. Even Perry is behind by like ten points.
I’m not worried by the “Generic Republican”. I think that is mostly because of independent voters, they would vote for a Republican against Obama. However every single Republican that is running has no interest in courting the independent vote. A moderate Republican could do very well in a general election but the GOP currently has its tea-bagging head so far up its ass that it would never allow a non-demagogue through the primary season.
Independent voters define elections and they don’t vote “anyone but Obama”.

I’d prefer it if you’d not make vague threats of violence against private citizens Mr. Governor, thanks.

Glenn Beck: Donald Trump’s Making Me ‘Uncomfortable’ | Politico
“Fox News host Glenn Beck said Friday night that Donald Trump has been making him “a little uncomfortable recently” with some of the wilder claims he’s made about President Barack Obama.”
Really, I think he’s just upset that Trump stole his act.
