STFU, Conservatives
We must admit that there are those among us that have used rhetoric that is harsh and intolerable and inexcusable. And we must admit — myself included — that sometimes we’ve been too slow to condemn that language for what it is.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) condemning other conservatives for harsh rhetoric against immigrants.

This is really relevant after Newt, Mitt, and Rick lined up to kiss his ass last night.

I was on my mom’s Facebook because she doesn’t know how to update it, and I caught a glimpse of something one of her friends shared.

The last guy cracks me up.

I think this little bit of ignorance is a great primer for the national security/foreign policy GOP debate that’s happening in 12 minutes!

(FYI: President Obama has set the record for deportations. When people implicate him while discussing their fear of immigrants, all I can do is shake my head.)

Here’s the follow-up to the GOP Family Values Bingo game for the next debate. The next one is Nov. 22 at 8 PM EST on CNN and is over national security issues. I’ll be live-tweeting it like usual. Follow me @meglanker. Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Jon Huntsman, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul are all confirmed to attend.
This debate is sponsored by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, who proudly endorse the poor people can’t have nice things meme.
Send me your filled out bingo card, and I’ll post it here. Good luck! I’m not sure if getting a bingo is winning or losing in this game.

This is a beautiful thing. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, folks! I’ll share this again when it comes time for the debate…and I’ll also try to liveblog it, but I promise you all I won’t be nearly as witty and engaging as Jess and Joe would be if they were here.

“There are people calling this a form of ethnic cleansing and I can’t figure out a reason why it isn’t. Sure, not every Hispanic in the state is undocumented, but you could certainly forgive them for feeling that measures this punitive mean they aren’t welcome. If the state is willing to deny someone water because they don’t have proper ID, they really, really don’t want you around.” - digby, on Alabama’s strict immigration law, which went into effect last week.

Wow. Ethnic cleansing by municipal pettiness. A new low.

I saw the guy in blue post this, and I commented. Blue guy’s fiancée and a mutual friend started commenting, which I deleted, because it got really off track and wasn’t really about the issue at hand. But then blue guy came back and just aired his true feelings. I tried explaining earlier that it’s not that immigrants just don’t want to pay taxes and learn English, but he’s pretty stuck on that idea. Ugh.

If you want to be taken seriously, Blue Guy, 1) Stop capitalizing random words. 2) Learn something about second language acquisition. 3) Acquire some manners. And 4) Stop using your Facebook profile to threaten and insult immigrants.
